Monday 4th Aug

Another windblown, this time on Penny Lake. Cut access and left brash in river for in channel habitat.

There is a windblown on the main channel (north) not fully obstructing the channel but will be programmed for removal as it overhangs an access path and posses some risk.

Thursday 18th July staff check

Deployed a mink raft last week on main east of fishing hut.

Walked the perimeter today, still the massive ash is down on the footpath, not our responsibility. Looks like some of the path has been cut back ( not by us, but not a bad thing). Rest of the perimeter is fine, there is a small desire line coming from the Northern boundary around here: I’m sharing a what3words address to help you find this specific location. Tap to see exactly where it is:

Monday 10th June

Butterfly survey week. As usual a few butterflies and swarms of damsel flies. Starting to dry out although remains very wet along the main river. However, no significant snags to report and the water is flowing well through the main sluices by the site entrance.

Tree on the main cleared

The double windblown Ash and willow has been winched out the river. Majority burned with large stems to the side. Tried to keep one root plate up for pond and nesting opportunity but once some weight was taken off it snapped back down

Wednesday 10th Jan

Thanks Adrian for checking the site after the storm. I've done all the ones I can in house.

All that remains is the big boy wind blown on the eastern main and the wind blown over the path. Hopefully get the latter down soon.

Levels still very high despite the week of no rain.

Thursday 4th January

Understandably very wet with the Itchen over flowing along the A34 edge. No breaches as such, just the height of the river is over topping the banks. There are 2 trees (willows) down over the southern and western perimeter paths, and a large branch across our first bridge in the south from the car parking area. There are 2 trees down affecting the Alan King Way. Sam has been notified. The new hut is coming along.

Pair of herons, wrens, great tits, swans and fieldfares were active this morning.
